ABOUT ME
There's no better job than supporting and strengthening the community I call "home."
Currently, I manage external communications at Aera Energy LLC. From traditional and social media, the company's web site and blog, to communication efforts with key stakeholders and ICS (Incident Command System) roles - including the PIO (Public Information Officer) role, I touch all pieces of messaging and ensure Aera's brand is promoted in a way that earns sustainable trust from the community.
I graduated from University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA, with my Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences in 2008 and Master’s in Educational Administration and Leadership in 2011. During my time at Pacific, a small team and I raised over $100,000 within one year for sustainability education programs and curriculum; ultimately giving way to the design and construction of a student-ran community garden. I also had the opportunity to represent Pacific at the Clinton Global Initiative University meeting, where students and world leaders convened and collaborated in the field of international development. In 2010, I had the great pleasure of spending my summer working in Washington D.C. for a nonprofit called International Action, where I researched and reported on development and humanitarian aid for Haiti .
I returned to Bakersfield in 2011 after I graduated, and found work at the Kern Community College District as an instructor and program coordinator for the Clean Energy Center and the Business & Entrepreneurship Center. From 2013 - 2016, I served as the lead analyst and marketing manager at Kern Economic Development Corporation. The industries I focused on were Kern County’s 'big five': Aerospace & Defense; Energy & Natural Resources; Healthcare Services; Transportation and Logistics; and Value-Added Agriculture.
Outside the office, I have entrenched myself in the community by writing curriculum and mentoring students at Independence High’s Energy and Utility Academy, taking part in the Chamber’s Leadership Bakersfield program and Kern Leaders Academy, and by joining several community boards and committees, including: the Kern Green Advisory Board, the Kern County Human Relations Commission, the Women & Girl’s Fund (a leadership initiative of the Kern Community Foundation), and last but not least, the Girl Scouts of Central California South Board of Directors as First Vice Chair.
When I'm not supporting businesses or volunteering with non-profits, you can find me snuggled up at home with my sweet baby girl, husband and our three fuzzy Pomeranians.
